JAE 2002 was a weekend to remember. Some came for a day out, some for Saturday evening and Sunday, and some from Friday night until Sunday afternoon. I had organised space for about 35 cars and we were lucky that it was located close to the main road around the site, making it nice and easy to find. We had about 15 cars on the saturday and 30 plus on the sunday.
The camping was at the other end of the field and we were next to the Z club who unfortunately had a car stolen last year from right under their noses. As we had been warned that an organised gang were making the journey to JAE to steal a skyline, we were taking no risks and the cars were shoehorned in nose to tail in-between the tents with some other cars at the end to block everyone in. The cars were going nowhere (see pictures) and so thankfully, there were no thefts over the weekend. A night of bbq and beer ensued until most were inebriated (some more than others). A fireworks display was put on by the Nissan Turbo Owners Club (we collected £70 towards this) and The Fast and the Furious was projected on the side of a van (but was cut short to keep the noise down, spoilsports).
Some of us were up at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday morning, feeling the effects of the night before, but a shower followed by bacon cobs sorted us out! Sunday was very busy and I spent the day running around chatting to owners and trying to organise the cars so that they could all be squeezed in neatly. It all went very well and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves. As the show came to a close, I was surprised (as there were so many immaculate skylines on our display), to have to go to the Z club stand and get my photo taken collecting a 'Highly Commended' trophy for my car.
Even though there were some petty thefts from other club displays, and some wheelspinning on the saturday night, the organisers said that the show would be back, bigger and better, next year.
